Ashes, ashes they all fall down!

The first domino has fallen. The indictment today of Vice President Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, is what I consider a good start. After 2 years of investigation the ball has begun to roll down hill. The next question is who will Scooter Libby serve up to protect himself?

How far up or down the ladder will this go? It is my opinion that it goes all the way to the top. I believe the investigation should be broadened to look at whether or not the Bush administration intentionally misled the American people to gain support for the war. If they did, it is in my opinion, a crime has been committed. If that could be proven, I consider it a “War Crime”, as well as murder of our troops! This would make Watergate look like kid stuff.

The arrogance of the Bush administration has become intolerable. It will now come back and bite them on the ass. With the withdrawal of Harriet Miers yesterday, I’m concerned Bush will nominate a person who is so far right, we may end up losing some of our civil rights. The first of which would be the right for a woman to choose, such as abortion. Next might be a very narrowing of the First Amendment.  All of which is on the agenda of radical Evangelical Christians.

In my opinion, our future as a free nation could be in jeopardy.

Arrogance and Tom DeLay

After several House ethics violation, and 2 recent indictments, you would think Tom DeLay would have learned his lesson by now, but no! Today the AP reports Tom DeLay admitted to House officials he failed to report over $45,000 that had been donated to his legal defense fund since 2000. The fact he has a defense fund for more than 4 years say’s a lot. Tom DeLay is one of the most powerful political figures ever to come out of Texas, but that doesn’t mean he can play by his own rules.

In Texas, the Republican Party couldn’t get control of the state legislature, so they changed the rules. After gaining control in Texas, the republicans redrew the Congressional district lines to gain seats in the House. According to reports I’ve read, Tom DeLay was the driving force behind the redistricting.

As part of his plan to help elect Republicans to Congress, he began following his own rules again. That is what led to his recent indictments. Again I ask, how does someone become so arrogant that he continually violates House ethic rules, and now Texas campaign law, and acts as though it’s nothing. You can bet the farm, if it where a Democrat doing this, Tom DeLay and the rest of the Republican Party would be screaming for their head.

I am not affiliated with any political party, I vote for the person I feel is best qualified to do the job. I voted for Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Gore and Kerry. I also voted for Pataki here in New York. So I don’t consider myself loyal to any party, but it seems to me the Republican Party is becoming too arrogant, and much too closely aligned with the evangelical right. The “if you don’t agree with me you’re my enemy” attitude is very dangerous to the give and take of government, and Tom DeLay is at the head of the line.

Keep in mind these statements are all my opinion. Thank god we can still voice our opinions without breaking the law, for now.

Can Bush tell the truth?

I still can’t get over the fact that President Bush still has millions of Americans that blindly follow him, what ever he say’s or does. His ego is so large, he won’t admit to making any mistakes since he took office in 2001.

I have to wonder if he truly knows what it’s like to struggle financially. Has he ever had to decide between paying the electric or phone bill, and paying for food or clothes for his children? I doubt it. His father handed him everything. The Supreme Court elected him in 2000, knowing he failed at every business venture he tried. He lost millions of his father’s friend’s dollars, and still had people thinking he is a great mind.

What about the war in Iraq? I believe, and it is my opinion, that President Bush had planned to invade Iraq as soon as the opportunity presented itself. In the back of his mind, he wanted to get even with Saddam for the attempted assassination of his father, George H Bush.

Now he is back-tracking on his promise to fire anyone who was involved in leaking Valarie Plame’s name.  Does President Bush ever tell the truth?
